⚠️Reminder of our Candlemas project ⚠️
On Monday 2nd February, we will be celebrating the feast of Candlemas.
Candlemas is a feast day that remembers the time when Jesus was taken to the Temple in Jerusalem, where he was described as a “light for all people.” Candles are often blessed or lit on this day as a symbol of hope, guidance and God’s love.
In school, we use Candlemas as an opportunity for children to think about the idea of light in a wider sense – not just as candles or light bulbs, but the people who bring light into our lives by showing kindness, care and support.
What is the Candlemas project?
This year, to celebrate this feast day, we would like the children to reflect on the following question:
Who brings light into your life?
Children will choose one or more people who bring light into their lives. This could include:
· Parents or carers
· Other family members
· Friends
· Teachers or school staff
· Coaches, leaders, or members of the community
· Saints
Once your child has chosen, they will then create a short piece of work to share their ideas. This may include:
· A drawing or poster
· A short-written reflection
· A labelled picture
· A simple craft or candle-themed artwork
· A sentence or paragraph explaining why this person is important to them.
Children will have the opportunity to talk about their projects in class and share them with rest of the school community. Please send completed projects into school by Friday 30th January.
If you have any questions about the Candlemas project or would like further support, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for helping us make this a meaningful and reflective experience for the children. We can’t wait to see your projects.
